How long does a Casa Nochi candle burn?
Every Casa Nochi candle gives you 50+ hours of clean, even burn. The vessel holds 220g of coconut-apricot wax, hand-poured in London E16. Burn time depends on you: keep sessions to 2-4 hours, trim the wick to 5mm before each light, and you will reach the upper end of that range. Push past 4 hours and you waste wax to evaporation. At £29.99 with a 50+ hour minimum, that works out to roughly 60p an hour - cheaper than a candle-lit pub.
How many Casa Nochi candles are there?
Ten. The full library covers five scent families: Smoky (Amber Nochi), Citrus (Casablanca Sunrise), Floral (Noir Orchid, Aphrodite's Whisper, Luna Eterna), Woody (Otto Eterna, Aurora Verde), and Gourmand (Cherry Velour, Vanilla Nochi, Parisian Morning). Each is a small batch hand-poured in London E16 from coconut-apricot wax with a 50+ hour burn. We have no plans to expand beyond ten in the next 12 months - every scent has to justify a place in the library, and adding for the sake of novelty would dilute the lane.
What room is Amber Nochi best for?
Living rooms, studies and reading corners in the evening. Strong enough to fill 25-30 sqm without overpowering. Not recommended for bedrooms - the smoky-cedar base is too anchoring for sleep for most people. Burns 50+ hours from a 220g vessel at £29.99.
Best room for Casablanca Sunrise?
Morning kitchens, bathrooms, entryways. Strongest in daylight. The most-bought daytime housewarming candle in our range. Less anchored for evening rooms - pair with Vanilla Nochi or Amber Nochi after sunset.
Best room for Noir Orchid?
Living rooms with dark walls, evening lounges, candle-lit dinners. Bedroom-strong but only for couples - singles often find it too anchoring for sleep. Strongest in autumn-winter rotation.
How strong is Aphrodite's Whisper's throw?
Aphrodite's Whisper has the loudest throw in the Casa Nochi range - covers 25-30 sqm comfortably, reaches from a hallway into the living room within minutes of lighting. The most-recommended hallway candle in our data.
What room is Aphrodite's Whisper best for?
Hallways, bathrooms before a long bath, bedrooms with velvet curtains. Strong for kitchens - the floral can clash with food. Most customers light it on Saturday evenings and Valentine's.
Is Luna Eterna safe for a bedroom?
Yes - Luna Eterna is the quietest Casa Nochi floral and the most-recommended bedroom candle in our range. Jasmine and violet leaf are calming; soft amber adds warmth without anchoring. Still: never sleep with a candle lit, no matter how quiet the scent.
Is Otto Eterna good for a bath?
Otto Eterna is the strongest bath candle in the Casa Nochi range. Lavender-thyme-cedar holds throw against bathroom steam better than most £30 candles. Place on a non-wood surface 30cm from towels; never within reach of the bath itself.
Is Otto Eterna good for working?
Yes - Otto Eterna is the most-bought Casa Nochi candle by writers and long-form workers. Lavender supports focus; thyme and cedar add grounding without sedation. Burn 2-4 hours per session.
Best room for Aurora Verde?
Daytime living rooms with hardwood floors, home studios, kitchens with herbs growing. Aurora Verde is the most-bought Casa Nochi candle for homes with east-facing windows.
Best room for Black Cherry Velour?
Dining rooms, kitchens with red wine on the counter, late-evening living rooms. Pairs well with hosting. Not recommended for bedrooms - the cherry-almond top reads too festive for sleep.
Is Vanilla Nochi safe for the bedroom?
Yes - Vanilla Nochi is one of the strongest bedroom-safe Casa Nochi candles. Warm and grounding without floral or smoky anchoring. Still: never sleep with a candle lit; extinguish before getting into bed.
Is Parisian Morning a kitchen candle?
Yes - Parisian Morning is the most-burned Casa Nochi kitchen candle. Roasted coffee and croissant pair with breakfast and morning bakes without competing. Place on a stable surface 60cm from active cooking.
II. Wax + ingredients
4 questions
What wax is Casa Nochi made from?
Coconut and apricot wax, blended. No paraffin, no soy, no palm. Coconut burns cleaner and throws scent further than soy; apricot adds a slower, smoother melt pool. The result is a candle that fills a room without smoke, soot, or the headache you get from a £6 supermarket jar. The blend is also vegan and biodegradable. We chose it for performance, not press releases - every test against soy and paraffin in our kitchen confirmed coconut-apricot was the right call.
Are Casa Nochi candles vegan, phthalate-free, and lead-free?
Yes to all three. The wax is plant-based (coconut-apricot, no beeswax), the fragrance oils are IFRA-certified and phthalate-free, and the wick is a cotton-paper braid with no lead, no zinc core. Nothing is tested on animals at any point in the supply chain. We picked these specs before we picked the scents - a luxury candle that gives you a headache at hour two is not luxury, it is theatre. The black matte glass is recyclable, the parchment label is compostable.
Are Casa Nochi scents made from essential oils or synthetic fragrance?
A controlled blend of both. Pure essential oils alone cannot deliver the throw, longevity, or complex top-heart-base structure a luxury candle needs - and many natural oils (rose, tuberose, sandalwood) are ecologically problematic at scale. Casa Nochi uses IFRA-certified fragrance compositions sourced from a perfumer in Grasse, France, blended with natural absolutes and essential oils where they perform. Everything is phthalate-free and skin-safe to IFRA Category 12 standards. We are honest about this because the all-natural claim is usually marketing fiction.
Is Noir Orchid vegan?
Yes - like every Casa Nochi candle, Noir Orchid is coconut-apricot wax, phthalate-free fragrance and lead-free cotton wick. No animal-derived ingredients. The leather note in the base is synthetic perfumery accord, not animal-derived.
III. Scent
28 questions
How do I choose the right Casa Nochi scent?
Take the 60-second [scent quiz](/quiz). Five questions about your room, your mood, and the time of day you light candles, and we recommend the best match across the 10 SKUs. The quiz is built on the same logic a perfumer uses - family first (Smoky, Floral, Citrus, Woody, Gourmand), then mood register, then occasion. Or, if you already know your direction: pick Amber Nochi for late-evening gravity, Casablanca Sunrise for warmth, Noir Orchid for drama, Vanilla Nochi for the soft option. Still unsure? Order the [discovery bundle](/bundle).
Is Casa Nochi a good alternative to Diptyque?
If you love Diptyque for the scent quality, restraint, and gravitas - yes. Casa Nochi sits in the same lane: heritage-luxury, no logo theatre, IFRA-certified fragrance oils, clean burn. The difference is price (£29.99 vs £58 for a 190g Diptyque), provenance (hand-poured in London E16, not contract-made in France), and the fusion concept (Slavic-Andean, every candle blends a Slavic note with an Andean one). If you love Diptyque for the colour-coded brand world specifically, Casa Nochi is more sober than that. Try Amber Nochi if you burn Feu de Bois.
Which Casa Nochi scent works best in a living room?
Amber Nochi for evenings - honey, tobacco, smoky cedar, designed for a low-lit room with one lamp on. Noir Orchid for drama - plum, black orchid, dark chocolate, for the room you actually entertain in. For an open-plan space combining kitchen and living room, Casablanca Sunrise (mandarin, orange blossom, saffron) holds both registers without feeling out of place at dinner. The 50+ hour burn and 220g format are sized for a room up to 30 square metres. Take the [scent quiz](/quiz) if you want a single recommendation in 60 seconds.
I have never bought a luxury candle - where do I start?
Two routes. Route one: take the [scent quiz](/quiz) (60 seconds, picks for you). Route two: read the plain-English scent description on each PDP and trust your nose. The safest single-bet first candle is Vanilla Nochi - bourbon vanilla, demerara, sandalwood. It is the universal pleaser without being boring. The adventurous first candle is Amber Nochi - smokier, more late-evening, the candle most likely to convert someone from supermarket scents to something they keep buying. Both are £29.99 with free UK delivery over £40 and 30-day returns if it isn't for you.
How strong is the scent throw?
Medium-strong cold throw, strong hot throw. Translation: pick up the candle unlit and you'll smell it; light it and it fills a 25-30 square metre room within 20 minutes. The 50+ hour burn time and 8% fragrance load were tuned for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, and small open-plan spaces. For very large rooms (open-plan kitchen-living over 40 square metres), burn two candles in opposite corners. The coconut-apricot wax throws further than soy, which is one reason we chose it. Diptyque burners describe the throw as comparable.
Is Casa Nochi similar to Jo Malone or NEOM?
Adjacent but distinct. Jo Malone leans bright, English-garden, single-note clarity; NEOM leans wellness, essential-oil forward, spa register. Casa Nochi sits closer to Diptyque or Trudon - heritage-luxury, complex top-heart-base structure, evening rather than morning, restraint rather than wellness messaging. If you burn Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir, try Noir Orchid. If you burn NEOM Real Luxury for the lavender, try Otto Eterna. The throw is comparable, the price (£29.99) sits below both, and the Slavic-Andean fusion concept is something neither brand offers.
What does Amber Nochi smell like?
Amber Nochi opens with honey and tobacco, drops into smoky cedar in the heart, and rests on amber-leather in the base. It is the most evening-coded candle in the Casa Nochi range - the room-anchor most customers reach for in winter. Closest reference points: Le Labo Santal 26 (warmth) and Diptyque Ambre (lineage), with a stronger honeycomb top than either.
Is Amber Nochi like Diptyque Ambre?
Same lane, different signature. Diptyque Ambre is paraffin-vegetable wax with a softer, more incense-led amber; Amber Nochi is coconut-apricot with a sharper honey-tobacco top and Russian beeswax inheritance from Pavel's side. Half the price at £29.99. Full comparison at /compare/casa-nochi-vs-diptyque.
What does Casablanca Sunrise smell like?
Mandarin and orange blossom on top, saffron warmth in the heart, soft amber-musk base. It is the warmest citrus in the Casa Nochi range - not the bright cleaning-product citrus most £30 candles default to. Adjacent to Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin but warmer and less perfumey.
How does Casablanca Sunrise compare to Jo Malone?
Casablanca Sunrise is warmer than Jo Malone Lime Basil - saffron base instead of basil herbaceousness - and half the price at £29.99 vs £55. Coconut-apricot wax, 50+ hour burn, vegan. Full breakdown at /compare/casa-nochi-vs-jo-malone.
Is Casablanca Sunrise a summer candle?
Year-round but strongest in summer mornings and early autumn. Mandarin-orange-blossom reads bright; saffron prevents it from feeling out-of-season in winter. Most customers burn it as a daytime opener regardless of month.
What does Noir Orchid smell like?
Black orchid leads, plum and dark chocolate in the heart, soft leather-vanilla base. It reads floral until you light it, then dark chocolate lifts and the candle reveals its smoky-floral lane. The most-recommended Diptyque Baies alternative we make.
Is Noir Orchid like Diptyque Baies?
Same lane - dark floral with fruit - different signature. Baies is blackcurrant and rose; Noir Orchid is plum and black orchid. Coconut-apricot wax burns 50+ hours vs Diptyque's 60. Half the price at £29.99 vs £62. The closest UK Baies alternative under £30.
What does Aphrodite's Whisper smell like?
Damascus rose at the top, tuberose in the heart, amber attar in the base. The most sensual candle in the Casa Nochi range and the most-burned on Valentine's evening. Rare floral - dark, anchored, never the rose-and-marshmallow girly-coding most £30 rose candles fall into.
What does Luna Eterna smell like?
Jasmine, violet leaf, soft amber. The quietest floral in the Casa Nochi range - bedroom-safe, daytime-friendly, the rare floral that doesn't announce itself. Adjacent to Jo Malone Wild Bluebell but with more jasmine warmth.
Is Luna Eterna a spring candle?
Strongest in spring and early summer but works year-round. Jasmine reads bright in March-May; violet leaf and amber base keep it from feeling out-of-season in autumn. Most customers burn it as a daytime default across seasons.
What does Otto Eterna smell like?
Lavender at the top, thyme and rosemary in the heart, cedar and Andean palo santo in the base. The classic herbal-spa register reimagined without the wellness vocabulary. The most-burned daytime candle in the Casa Nochi range.
Is Otto Eterna like NEOM Real Luxury?
Adjacent - same lavender-rosemary lineage, different price and register. NEOM Real Luxury is £36, 50hr, wellness-coded; Otto Eterna is £29.99, 50+ hr, heritage-luxury-coded. Casa Nochi adds Andean palo santo to the base, which NEOM does not. Full comparison at /compare/casa-nochi-vs-neom.
What does Aurora Verde smell like?
Fig leaf, jasmine, palo santo. The brightest green candle in the Casa Nochi range. The closest UK alternative to Diptyque Figuier at half the price (£29.99 vs £62).
Is Aurora Verde like Diptyque Figuier?
Yes - the closest Casa Nochi candle to Figuier. Same fig-leaf top, similar woody base, with Andean palo santo replacing Figuier's cedar register. Half the price at £29.99, coconut-apricot vs paraffin-vegetable wax. Full comparison at /compare/casa-nochi-vs-diptyque.
Is Aurora Verde a summer candle?
Strongest in summer and early autumn. Fig leaf is the green-tomato-vine top note that reads brightest in warm weather. Burns 50+ hours in a 220g vessel at £29.99.
What does Black Cherry Velour smell like?
Black cherry leads, almond and tonka in the heart, soft leather base. Reads as fruit-forward gourmand but never sticky-sweet - the leather anchor keeps it from cake-shop register. The most-recommended dinner-party candle in our range.
Is Black Cherry Velour like Le Labo Thé Noir 29?
Adjacent. Le Labo Thé Noir 29 is fig-tobacco-tea; Black Cherry Velour is cherry-almond-leather. Both sit in dark-gourmand territory at very different prices (£85 vs £29.99). Coconut-apricot wax, 50+ hour burn. Full comparison at /compare/casa-nochi-vs-le-labo.
What does Vanilla Nochi smell like?
Bourbon vanilla at the top, demerara sugar in the heart, sandalwood base. The safest universal candle in the Casa Nochi range - warm, evening-appropriate, almost no one dislikes it. Le Labo Santal 26 register, third of the price at £29.99.
Is Vanilla Nochi a good first Casa Nochi candle?
Yes - Vanilla Nochi is the candle we most recommend to first-time Casa Nochi buyers. Universally liked, evening-strong, the closest thing to a default-safe pick in the range. If unsure, start here.
Is Vanilla Nochi like Le Labo Santal 26?
In the same warm-sandalwood lane, very different price. Le Labo Santal 26 is £85; Vanilla Nochi is £29.99. Casa Nochi adds bourbon vanilla and demerara on top, which Santal 26 does not. Coconut-apricot wax (vegan) vs soy. Full breakdown at /compare/casa-nochi-vs-le-labo.
What does Parisian Morning smell like?
Roasted coffee at the top, croissant and brown sugar in the heart, soft sandalwood base. The rare gourmand candle that works in daylight. The most-bought Casa Nochi candle in December.
Does Parisian Morning smell of actual coffee?
Yes - Parisian Morning uses high-grade roasted-coffee accord that reads as the real bean, not the synthetic coffee note most £30 candles default to. Pairs especially well with an actual cup of black coffee in hand.
IV. Burn + care
7 questions
How do I fix candle tunneling?
Tunneling means a narrow well of wax burned down the centre while the outer ring stayed solid. Fix it by foiling: tear a strip of aluminium foil, wrap it loosely around the rim leaving a centre hole, and burn for 2-3 hours until the surface re-levels. Prevention is easier than cure - the first burn of any new candle must run 3-4 hours so the wax pool reaches the glass edge. Memory wax is real. If you blow it out at hour one, the candle tunnels for life.
Do I need to trim the wick?
Yes - to 5mm before every single burn. An untrimmed wick mushrooms, throws soot onto the glass, and burns the wax too fast. Use a wick trimmer or a pair of nail scissors; the wick should look like a clean black stub, not a flag. Trim while the wax is solid, never while it's molten. This one habit doubles your throw and adds 10+ hours to the candle's life. It is the single difference between a candle that lasts 40 hours and one that lasts 60.
Can I refill or reuse the vessel?
Yes - and we encourage it. Once the candle is finished, soak the vessel in warm soapy water for 20 minutes, scrape out the wax residue with a butter knife, peel off the parchment label, and you have a black matte glass tumbler that holds a small cocktail, a votive, succulent cuttings, or makeup brushes. We don't yet sell refills (the logistics break our small operation) but the vessel was designed to outlive the wax. If we ever launch a refill programme, customers on our list hear first.
Do Casa Nochi candles have a shelf life?
Best burnt within 18 months of purchase. The wax does not technically expire, but fragrance oils gradually lose top notes after about 18 months in the vessel - a candle from early 2025 burnt in 2027 will still smell beautiful, just slightly softer on the bright opening notes. Store away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. The black matte glass blocks UV which helps; a cupboard or shelf out of the kitchen is ideal. Once lit, finish the candle within 6 months for the cleanest scent throw.
Why is my candle producing black smoke or soot?
Almost always the wick. Three causes: the wick is too long (trim to 5mm before lighting), the candle is in a draught (window, fan, air-con vent), or the burn session has run past 4 hours and the wax is overheating. Casa Nochi candles use a cotton-paper braid wick with no lead or zinc core, so sooting is unusual when the basics are right. If sooting persists after trimming and removing draughts, email us - a faulty wick is rare but possible, and we replace the candle. Soot is not normal for a luxury candle.
Why has the wax surface gone slightly bumpy or discoloured?
Natural wax behaviour. Coconut-apricot wax is softer than paraffin and reacts to temperature swings - a candle stored in a cold hallway then moved to a warm room can develop a slightly mottled or bumpy surface called frosting. This is purely cosmetic and burns away on the first light. Discolouration only matters if the wax has gone yellow or developed an off-smell, which suggests heat damage or extreme age. If the candle is under 18 months old and stored normally, the bumpy surface is the wax behaving as it should. Light it.
What is the right way to light a Casa Nochi candle for the first time?
Trim the wick to 5mm. Light with a long match or stick lighter, not a short flame that scorches your fingers. Burn for 3-4 hours on the first session - long enough for the wax pool to reach the full diameter of the glass. This sets the memory ring; skip it and you tunnel for life. Place on a heat-resistant surface away from draughts. Phone in another room. Read, eat, or sit. Extinguish with a snuffer or dip the wick into the wax with a stick, then re-centre. Never blow out - it spits soot.
V. Shipping
2 questions
How long does UK delivery take?
Every order is dispatched within 24 hours of being placed. Delivery itself depends on the option you pick at checkout: Royal Mail Tracked standard, or Royal Mail 1st Class (paid). Order five or more candles and 1st Class ships free. Free UK standard shipping over £40, otherwise £3.95. We do not yet ship outside the UK - every parcel ships from London E16 with no plastic void fill.
Do you ship internationally?
Not yet. Casa Nochi currently ships to UK mainland addresses only. We are a two-person founder team hand-pouring in London, and getting international shipping right - duties, glass breakage, customs paperwork - needs proper infrastructure we are building toward, not improvising. If you are outside the UK and want to be told the day we ship to your country, the form on our contact page goes straight to Pavel's inbox. Until then, a UK friend with a forwarding address is the workaround most overseas customers use.
VI. Returns
1 question
What is the returns policy?
30 days. If the scent isn't right or you've changed your mind, email hello@casanochi.com within 30 days of delivery and post the candle back - return shipping is at your cost. Refunds land on your original card within 5 working days of us receiving the return. If the candle arrived damaged in transit, we cover the return shipping and replace or refund - send a photo with the email.
VII. Gifting
7 questions
Can I send this as a gift?
Yes. Ship the order to the recipient's address - no invoice or price appears in the parcel. If you want a personal message included, add it in the order notes and we'll write it on the dispatch slip by hand before sealing. We do not offer dedicated gift wrap or a date-hold service yet. If a specific arrival date matters, email hello@casanochi.com before you order and we'll tell you the realistic window for that postcode.
Is Casa Nochi a good anniversary gift?
Yes - and a single £29.99 candle reads as considered rather than last-minute. Aphrodite's Whisper (Damascus rose, tuberose, amber attar) is the obvious romantic choice; Luna Eterna (jasmine, violet leaf, soft amber) is the subtler one. Add a gift note at checkout - included free. Orders dispatch within 24 hours; UK shipping is free over £40, otherwise £3.95 Royal Mail 1st Class. We pack discreetly - no invoice, no visible pricing.
Is Amber Nochi a good gift?
Yes - Amber Nochi is the most-gifted Casa Nochi candle to men in our data. Father's Day, anniversaries, housewarmings. Honey-tobacco-cedar reads as warm without floral or gourmand register. Ships free in any £40+ order; gift note added at checkout.
Is Aphrodite's Whisper good for Valentine's Day?
Yes - Aphrodite's Whisper is the most-gifted Casa Nochi candle on Valentine's Day. Damascus rose + tuberose + amber attar is the rare candle that holds its own in low lamps with a second glass of wine. Sits with the room rather than perfuming it.
Is Luna Eterna a good Mother's Day gift?
Yes - Luna Eterna is one of our top Mother's Day picks alongside Vanilla Nochi. Gentler floral than Aphrodite's Whisper, daytime-strong, the kind of candle a mother actually lights on a slow Sunday morning rather than saving for special occasions.
Is Black Cherry Velour a Christmas candle?
Yes - part of our December bestseller Smoky Evenings Edit bundle alongside Amber Nochi and Noir Orchid. Cherry-almond-leather reads festive but never cinnamon-orange-spice cliché. £29.99 single, £79 in the Trio bundle.
Is Parisian Morning a Christmas candle?
Yes - Parisian Morning is the most-gifted single Casa Nochi candle in December. Warm, gourmand, untraditional enough to feel intentional rather than another cinnamon-orange-spice cliché. £29.99 single, ships free over £40.
VIII. Brand + story
3 questions
Where are Casa Nochi candles made?
Hand-poured in London E16, on a kitchen table, by the two founders. No factory, no contract manufacturer, no white-label. Pavel (Estonian, Russian-speaking, raised between Tallinn and London) and Milayde (Peruvian) blend, pour, label, and ship every order themselves. The wax comes from a UK supplier, the glass from a small European maker, the fragrance from a perfumer in Grasse. London is where the heat is applied and the scent gets named. If you order on a Tuesday, it was probably poured the Friday before.
What does Slavic-Andean fusion mean?
Casa Nochi was founded in early 2025 by Pavel (Estonian, Russian-speaking, raised between Tallinn and London) and Milayde (Peruvian). Every candle blends one Slavic note with one Andean note: birch tar with palo santo, beeswax with copal, smoky cedar with cacao. Tallinn gives us the long northern night, the samovar, silence as a luxury. Lima gives us Andean dusk, warmth as defence against cold mountains, palo santo and tonka. Every candle is the conversation between two homes that never shared a border. Heritage-luxury, not concept-store novelty. Two worlds, one match.
Who is the founder of Casa Nochi?
Pavel, an Estonian from Tallinn, and Milayde, his Peruvian co-founder from Lima, founded Casa Nochi together in early 2025 after meeting in London. Both bring the scent memories of home - one of samovars and beeswax in the icon corner, one of palo santo at Andean dusk. They pour every candle by hand in a kitchen in London E16 and answer every customer email personally. No investors, no agency, no white-label factory. Casa Nochi is a small-batch operation built on the conviction that two cultures argue better when they share a wick.
IX. Safety
2 questions
Are Casa Nochi candles safe to burn around pets?
Yes, under normal conditions. The wax is plant-based (coconut-apricot, no paraffin soot), the wick has no lead or zinc, the fragrance is IFRA-certified and phthalate-free. Burn in a well-ventilated room and keep the open flame out of reach of pets, as you would any candle. Cats are sensitive to strong essential oils - Otto Eterna (lavender, thyme, cedar) and Aurora Verde (palo santo) are best burned in rooms your cat doesn't sleep in. Birds should not be near any burning candle regardless of brand. Never leave any candle unattended.
What are the basic candle safety rules?
Burn on a heat-resistant surface, away from draughts, curtains, and anything flammable within 30cm. Never leave a burning candle unattended or sleep with one lit. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Trim the wick to 5mm before every burn - long wicks throw flame and soot. Stop burning when 10mm of wax remains in the bottom of the vessel; below that, the glass overheats. Maximum burn session: 4 hours. The glass will be hot for 30 minutes after extinguishing - do not move it.
